Vintage Valentines!

It is now
Valentine's Day!

Many of those we love
are not
"lovers"

Isn't this a

FANTASTIC

card?

I have two daughters ....

and they are AWESOME!

(We also have a new DIL ...

sweetest thing ever!)

Montana Girl
lives in a small town.
Not as small as Gates, Oregon ....
in 1912 ...

but Miss Minnie
didn't need an address
for her mail to be delivered!
This is the face ...
and reminds me of

the ever-stylish
Pink Princess.
(She's in Seattle)

This cute card is from 1910

Can you
IMAGINE
that heart being
FILLED
with

CHOCOLATE?!?!

Do you have a little cupid

making you a card?

I can imagine

Our Son the Genius
making a handmade card
for Rocket Scientist DIL.
(He's sweet like that!)

Having been gone for
a good long while

helping Montana Girl get ready to become

FLORIDA GIRL ...

Flamingo Gal ?? ...

Gulf Coast Cutie ?? ..

I want to say how much I miss you all!!

Hugs to all my blog Valentines ... and hope to swing by to see you soon!!
SAMMY GIRL

note: caring for kids, cooking, cleaning, new carpet, painting, sorting, new tile, staging, more painting .... YOU know what it's like getting a house ready to sell! We are thankful for the new job for Mr. Montana Girl and adventures that lie around the corner for their sweet family. Here's to great new adventures for ALL of us in 2010 - (and BOY do I look forward to beachcombing for shells in the new locale!!) Hope YOU are dreaming and praying ..... and preparing to HANG ON TIGHT!

Pink Saturday - Optimistically

Looking at life through
rose-colored glasses

"with an attitude that things
are better than they really are"

Hmmmmm

Being an optimist
has options ....
Sorta retro 80's/90's
(what is this style callled?)

And
(of course!)
classic cat-eye frames ...

complete with just a bit
of
BLING!

Something a little more
straightforward ...

business woman or
super hero disguise
(a la Clark Kent)

But even an optimist
can have a

bad day.

What's a gal to do
when the world hits
ya a good one?

Why talk to her

eternally optimistic
best friend.

Try to get a little different

perspective ...

(love the glitz and bling on those opera glasses!)

Or maybe just sit by the fire.

Things might look better
with pink glasses of bubbly.

The best pink lens to use
to see the world?

Just sayin' ...

No matter how rough the
setback
you can be an optimist
if you know the happy ending.

Hugs and here's to maintaining a positive attitude in tough times ...
SAMMY GIRL

note: for more Pink Saturday with decor, collectibles and everything imaginable, visit Beverly at How Sweet the Sound here (or click on the Pink Saturday button on my sidebar).
Also, if you know Kathy from Mimi's Garden (click here to visit if you don't know her blog) please ask her how she has my Great Gramma's cookie jar. Seriously! I couldn't believe it ... although the lid to gramma's broke way back in the 60's, so perhaps it's a different one ... maybe.

Vintage Christmas Monday - How Do You Feel About Red?

When a certain
little girl went to

visit granny

she had her
FAMOUS cloak ...

When Dorothy
needed a boost

she wore a

FABuLOUS

pair of shoes ...

Prince?
he sang about this
sweet ride ...

And
YOU
my dear?

Ever considered the
equivalent of a
little black dress
for your
traditional
holiday home?

Look no further
than the

still-going-strong
after 100 years
in the spotlight

Pointsettia!

Well,

maybe not

REAL

pointsettias!

I love

vintage Christmas
pointsettia postcards
These cards are from
my collection.

Postmarks from the
early 1900's.

(postage - one cent!!)

HISTORY LESSON
(ok to scroll past)

We owe the Pointsettia to a southern gentleman.

Dr. Joel Roberts Poinsett introduced America to the poinsettia in 1828,
after discovering it in the wilderness in southern Mexico
while serving as the first US Ambassador to that country..
Dr. Poinsett, who dabbled in botany when he wasn't politicking between nations,
sent cuttings of the plant back to his South Carolina home.

I love the
colors and typestyles
of vintage postcards.

Hope you like these, too!

Hugs and Happy Vintage Christmas Monday .... hope these "reds" chased your "blues" away!!

It's another manic monday ....

White Wednesday - Here Comes the Bride

Yes it's Wednesday.

White Wednesday to be precise.

Yes -- I have missed some.

But here goes ....

Instead of looking
far and wide
for pics promoting
the
awesome-ness of white

let me

SHARE with YOU

some of my own

VINTAGE WEDDING PICS*

I wonder who the happy couple is.

And this one, too ...
Finally,
"Aunt Myrtle and husband"

AND
for those of you who
DON'T LIKE
VINTAGE WEDDING PICS

Something
wedding related
It doesn't get any better than this ...
old white ironstone
and a vintage fork
with tines holding a placard.

From Elizabeth (of Elizabeth House fame)
and her Carriage House Wedding

From the opening comment
"burlap is today's tulle"
to the closing statement
"we trusted our hearts"

this is a site you will
fall in love with
each time you visit.

CHEERS!

Hugs and Happy White Wednesday (visit Kathleen at Faded Charm for a list of participants -- and a giveaway!)
Sammy Girl

*note: all photos are believed to be weddings, but no guarantees!  All were purchased at estate sales, flea markets, ebay, and other sources.  No real information regarding individuals, (sometimes written on back) but consider them all family.  You may download the images to use in journals or other artwork.  If you do, please send me a pic of the finished project so we can celebrate together!
ps if you don't care for the style of dress, stick around!  More to come later ....  In the meantime, get a kick out of the elaborately painted backdrops ..... or furniture choices, hairstyles and "gleeful" expressions.  Enjoy!

White Wednesday - Mmmm

Yes

Today IS Wednesday.

Again?   Already?

Didn't we JUST have a Wednesday?

Wow ... what's it gonna be like when I'm 80?

You know .... they say time goes faster when you get older.

Think when I'm 80 it'll be SUPERSONIC!!

Guess that will make me a superhero ... ?

ANYHOW ....

I love having pretty pictures to look at.

Here are some I have pulled from magazines.

Kinda.

Pictures and places on my computer.

Some have sources ...
some not so much.

If I have one of yours and no ID
please let me know so I can give you credit.

Please enjoy some of the images
that bring me joy
and inspiration
even when life goes by in a blur!

This image is from a story in
Country Home on Willow Nest.
Linda's wonderful work
has inspired me for 6-7 years.
Who can remember?

mmmmmm
an uber yummy German blog
Shabby French and Seaside Interior.
Visit this blog whenever YOU need a boost -
I DO!

From Finland
(so were my grandparents!)
Another blog you
MUST VISIT
even if you don't translate ...

She is such a sweetie!
And her photos and
etsy goodies are incredible.
Go say hi!

Don't remember where I saw these beauties ...
think one of the Swedish sites I visit.

There are so many lovely blogs out there.
Check out my sidebar for others.
This?
It's an image of goodies I found this summer.
Think at Julie and Christa's show.

Oops,
Kindred Roses, I mean ...

Go ahead and click to enlarge and use for projects if you want.
or just visit and say "hi".
(How about that RAIN in Camas?!!)

Always a go to for
sweet pics and inspiration.
More Atlanta Bartlett.

Here's a last
inspirational image.

Yes
it IS the Statue of Liberty.
But it is also
so much more.
(click to see what I mean)

Don't forget to visit Kathleen
at Faded Charm for more
