Vintage Christmas Monday - Oldies that are GOODIES

CHRISTMAS GOODIES

That's what's I'm
talking about!

And
VINTAGE GOODIES
are not
OLD FRUITCAKE!

Do you have any
vintage recipes
or traditional foods
that you
MUST
make for Christmas?

Amaretto Truffles
would be a good tradition.

These are from
Sweet Paul
his blog is here.

These cinnamon buns
are Sweet Paul's too.

I love his blog
and have read it for
a couple of years.

Do you make cinnamon buns for Christmas Morning?

It's a GREAT tradition!

(If no time for scratch ...
the frozen Rhodes' are super!)

How about this yummy dish!

Doesn't Mari take wonderful pictures?

If you are not familiar with her work
from other sites
go to her own blog
An Angel at My Table

Mmmmm!

I want to wipe up
the extra glaze
with my finger ...
just a taste!

Text is in Swedish ....

but the language of
food, photos and children
is universal!

And besides,
google translate is
ALWAYS
good for a laugh!

Shortbread?
It's one of my son's
two favorite holiday sweets.

Don't cook or have
food traditions?

There are always
non-edible holiday goodies ...
like amaryllis!

OK!

Now it's time for me to

confess.

It's true I love to cook ...

but what I love
most
in the photos

are

the

VINTAGE
COOLING RACKS!

The shortbread pic is from
Country Home
Holidays at Home
magazine from
1997

It is still
my favorite
after all these years.

And my holiday baking
would look FAB on it,
don't you think??

Tomorrow?

Not baking.

I will make
homemade mayonnaise
for my dad.

His special request for
Christmas.

I won't use the vintage
Wesson Oil gadget ...

but will put in lots of
Holiday Love!

Hugs and hope your Christmas is surrounded by Holiday Goodies and lots of love!

Chippy

Vintage Christmas Monday - How Do You Feel About Red?

When a certain
little girl went to

visit granny

she had her
FAMOUS cloak ...

When Dorothy
needed a boost

she wore a

FABuLOUS

pair of shoes ...

Prince?
he sang about this
sweet ride ...

And
YOU
my dear?

Ever considered the
equivalent of a
little black dress
for your
traditional
holiday home?

Look no further
than the

still-going-strong
after 100 years
in the spotlight

Pointsettia!

Well,

maybe not

REAL

pointsettias!

I love

vintage Christmas
pointsettia postcards
These cards are from
my collection.

Postmarks from the
early 1900's.

(postage - one cent!!)

HISTORY LESSON
(ok to scroll past)

We owe the Pointsettia to a southern gentleman.

Dr. Joel Roberts Poinsett introduced America to the poinsettia in 1828,
after discovering it in the wilderness in southern Mexico
while serving as the first US Ambassador to that country..
Dr. Poinsett, who dabbled in botany when he wasn't politicking between nations,
sent cuttings of the plant back to his South Carolina home.

I love the
colors and typestyles
of vintage postcards.

Hope you like these, too!

Hugs and Happy Vintage Christmas Monday .... hope these "reds" chased your "blues" away!!

Feel free to use these images for your projects! (please send me a photo or link if you do!!)

White Wednesday - Dying for the Holidays ... mini tutorial

Dying for the holidays
and a White Christmas?

Come on, Sammy Girl!
Christmas is coming ...

Oh, wait .....

Dying ... as in dye-ing??

Well

Sorta!

More like "un-dying" ...

All right, all right ...
it's bleaching!

I just can't think of any
catchy puns
to go with bleaching

so we are "un-dying"
green sisal trees

Old hat for some -
maybe something new for you!

Here's a veritable forest
I bought for under $1!

First step
pour water and bleach into a
non-reactive container.

That means
NOT METAL!
glass or plastic okay
(Mine is a plastic garbage can.)

Toss the green gems
into their beauty spa!

Do not include any plastic trees!

Stir to ensure
complete coverage.
Use a non-metallic spoon --

This spoon was my gramma's ...
thought it would add the right
holiday mojo!

Stir occasionally to check progress.
The bath will turn
GREEN.

When you think they are ready,
take trees out to check color.

The large tree is splotchy ... needs more soaking!

(note: the Dept 56 trees were tough cookies ..
they have white plastic bases.
The cheapies with wood bases were
fast and easy - hussies!)

When color is what you want
rinse to remove bleach.

I sprinkle on baking soda
before rinsing
to neutralize the bleach.

After the beauty spa?

Why a nice visit
by the fire!

Hugs and Happy White Wednesday!
SAMMY GIRL

Notes:
green looking tree on the far left is Dept 56 and not quite as green in person
dark green tree near middle is "control tree" with original color
first photo of white goodness is from Holiday Treasures sale Molly Mo's and Vintage Trifles, taken by Joy (Auntie Joy) - visit her blog here.

Pink Saturday -- Yummy Pink Inspiration

One my
favorite

SOURCES OF INSPIRATION
Handy
and FULL of
PINK!

BUT ...

Not everything pink
and cute
works for me.

I am owned by a cat
and he cat would
NEVER
wear this outfit ...

So ....
what DOES
work for me?

How about this pink room?
well, lots of good pink fun,

but not sure I could
LIVE with it

EVERY DAY.

Maybe pink in
small doses
is what I feel like

at least for today!

What about these small bits?
These turn of century
pink sentiment cups?

Yep!

LOVE EM!

and reminds me I have some ...
somewhere here in Whoville.

Oooo ...
 bottlebrush trees!

Do I want
(or need)
some in pink??

Maybe!!

How about a
light in the window?

Pink, of course!
Like this wonderful creation by
Laurie (Magpie Ethel)

Who would've thought
plastic vintage lights
could be so
SPECTACULAR!

How about a few
sweet pink floral touches
like
pink roses?
Perfectly pink for
any season,

especially

Christmas!

Now maybe just a bit more ...

a few
pink ornaments

and

pink depression glass.

Like this?
Yep ...

I could have a holiday brunch
at a table like this!

And speaking of brunch ....
now that's what I call
pink inspiration!

Hugs and have an inspirational Pink Saturday!

BLACK FRIDAY!

No I'm not depressed.
My Black Friday
is not referring to the
Financial Crisis of 1869
where the market crashed
because of attempts to corner and control
the gold market ....
or the
day after Thanksgiving shopping binge
which has been called Black Friday
since policemen used the term
due to the difficult traffic Philadelphia
in the mid 60's  ....
BUT ...

We have White Wednesday
and
Pink Saturday

Isn't it TIME for a
BLACK FRIDAY?

It is said
black "grounds" a room and
every room needs a little black.

I have a lot of black bits in the
Who Villa ...

But let me share some images
from some other folks.
image from Better Homes and Gardens

lots of lovely pics ...
GO!
Even if you are CONVINCED
you HATE black.

BTW
if you haven't been following the
ADVENTURES
of their reno
you are missing some great stuff!

Black plays well with others.
Whether on the front stoop in London
or a living room.

Black doesn't eliminate your flexibility.

Look at this room from

here's a basic room ...
nothing crazy

add orange for fall ... still works!

What about Christmas?
Trendy spring colors?
Yep - that too!
This quote

"Black is the new Black"

Gotta love it!
"Fasten your seat belts: Black is the new black. Decoratively speaking, it's been known as somber, soigné, and serious. But when you want to pull out all the stops, you pull out the black."

Bottom line ...
isn't it time for a little
DRAMA
in your life ...

your DECORATING LIFE
that is, lol!

Invite black into your home
and have some fun!

Candlesticks - any style!

A dresser, perhaps?

Ask your house ...
what kind of LBD is it waiting for you
to find (or paint!)?

Hugs and have a stunningly wonderful "Black Friday"!
Sammy Girl

Does anyone else like black bits?  Can you do a post with pics and tell me about it?
