Paris!

Bonjour!

Just a couple of images
to brighten your day.

Springtime in Paris

Forget the rain and cold ...
this virtual trip to
PARIS
is beautiful!!

The wildflowers have begun to bloom.

The park is welcoming!

Each morning there is a
bit of fog
as we walk around the city.

All that walking!

Here's a bench ....
Let's stop for a moment

Did you know I got us tickets ....

For a Christian Dior show!

PINK
(of course!)

Our time grows short ...

but we promised ourselves a
carriage ride.

Our last night before flying home.

I bought you a little something
when we were at the fleas ...

(Actually a free download
from Stampington ...)

HUGS and have a great day .... I'm off to prepare our own "Paris Flea Market" for Saturday!

note: hope these pictures make up for none last night!!

Time to Celebrate!

So many reasons to celebrate!

First -- I am back home, even if only temporarily. Good to see Mr. Sammy Girl and my friends.

Second -- Had a wonderful time in Montana (especially with the small fry who are happy and healthy). The work of getting a home ready to sell was worth it with seeing these smiling faces everyday!

Third -- Saw a pic of my work in Flea Market Style.

HONESTLY!

Bought a copy of the mag and eager to see the article on the Barn Boys. (Gee, their first sale seems like yesterday ... and forever ago at the same time!) Was starting to go through page by page ...and opened up to page 12 and saw my very own

WINE BOTTLE CHANDELIER!
I made it for Cindy's barn "occasionaly sale".
is such a sweetie and lets me help her
when our schedules work out.
With all my busy-ness I haven't been to
ANY of her 2010 sales.
Be sure to check out her schedule for upcoming dates.

Fourth -- THIS SATURDAY IS THE 4 Friends Sale!!

Joy (Auntie Joy), Diane (Molly Mo) and Martha (Vintage Trifles) are pros (gosh, I first typed "prose" and that would be wrong, 'cause what these gals do is pure poetry!!

They are all so much fun and shopping at their events is a blast.

As the fourth friend I am in a "I can't believe I am doing this" .... but as good/crazy friends, they are right there encouraging me .... kinda holding hands and jump off the cliff together!

I have so many goodies (edible and non-edible!) in store .... but no time to talk about it now. Getting down to Salem (Historic Deepwood Estate) to set up!

Hugs to you all and hope you have a WONDERFUL and EXCITING week with lots to CELEBRATE!
Sammy Girl

ps ... for some reason the version of blogger that opened this morning for composing this post didn't have the icon to link to web pages. (What's with THAT??!!) (And now it's there, but very difficult wrangling pictures, so only two!!) No time to trouble shoot this morning, but will deal with later tonight and I PROMISE to post info, directions, pictures and MUCH MORE .... EVERY DAY this week!! HONEST!! Lotsa Hugs and have missed you all ... A LOT!

Kempton Races - London part 4

Treasure hunting at the racetrack.
Not looking for odds on a pony ....
but winning on a
sure thing.

We're talkin'
Antique Market
baby!

Kempton Park

A racetrack much of the time
but home to antique market
every other week

Treasures from
England and Europe.
(Hurrah for the Chunnel!)

Of course there are no pictures of
our tube and train ride there.

Quaint towns, gardens,
etc, etc.

The camera stayed at the hotel.

Guess it wanted a nap.

After returning I woke the camera
and snapped a few pics to share.

Overview of the "finds"
Not a great pic - but includes
Victorian letter holder
lots of silverplate
knife rests
serving spoons
salt and mustard spoons
fish knives
no bone handles, though.
(too pricey)

many old keys
lion door knocker
drawer and door pulls
furniture brasses
clock faces
even a lock box
with key and inset drawer
that's chippy red inside!

See anything you like?

I love it all!
Who can resist?

To top it off?

Old legal documents.
Dating from
1851 to 1906 or so.

Not on paper.

REAL vellum.

Mmmmm!

How about a closer look?
Until next time!

Hugs and hope your day is filled with treasure --

Happy French-y 4th!

WHAT!!  The French?
Why - oh - why Sammy Girl are you talking about French things?
On the MOST AMERICAN HOLIDAY!
WHY?

download from Vintage by Crystal

Well, it's NOT that everyone has a penchant for all things French (which they do)
NOR that I have acquired an interest in some very French-y things (although I have) --
but the fact that the SUCCESS of our Revolution was VERY DEPENDENT upon the French.  (Now I don't want to sound like I was THERE .... so I am relying on history buffs and scholars.)

Want to know more specifics?

The French were key in maintaining our new image as a nation and garnering support in Europe (diplomacy) .... providing important military support in critical times (French Admiral de Grasse and his fleet and a French army under the French Comte de Rochambeau are credited with Corwall's surrender)  and one of MY favorite French connections ... the Marquis de LaFayette .... he was so awesome everyone just used his title ... that wasn't even his name!

Who was he?  A young stud .... er, gun from France who helped to popularize the war - shared his training and expertise to help the US military and diplomatic icons like Franklin - and was the first person to be given honorary American citizenship.
All in all, he was treated like a rock star, especially when he toured the US near the 50th anniversary of Independence ... (kinda, sorta, like a rock star, if you know what I mean ... given land in Florida and money and LOTS of public accolades).

Of course, maybe all that was because he had been so YOUNG during the war he was the only HERO and friend of Gen'l WASHINGTON still alive!

Here's a very good one page essay on the American Revolution ... a more comprehensive and global look back than most of us had in school.

Ok!  Enough of the history!
Here are a couple of French-y downloads for you to celebrate the 4th of July.

download from White Linen

download from Perpetualplum

Some of my MOST FAVORITE French-y things I have saved for another time, but I'll leave you with a final fun thought.  The Revolution (aka Revolutionary War which followed the whole Declaration of Independence thing) became the game plan for REVOLUTIONS AROUND THE WORLD!

Yes, we in the USA are TRENDSETTERS.

I think that's also another word for rule-breakers .... which is what my ENTIRE family considers me to be. So, join me in celebrating the 4th of July .........

and eat dessert FIRST!

Off to the parade and fireworks in Stayton, but first a street faire in Silverton and family get-together at my mom's ...

Hugs and wishes for a happy and safe holiday!
